I recently bought a used bass boat, 2001 Ranger 520 DVX Bass Masters Classic Official Boat. The boat is almost flawless with the exception of two scratches in the gel coat. They are about two inches long and maybe 1/8 inches deep. I called ranger to see if they have a touch up kit but they do not. Anyone know of a way to repair these scratches? Thanks for you help......

bradydunn, find someone in your area that does good gel coat work. i had a scratch on my triton about 6" long and 1/8" deep. got a guy here in my area (randy's bodyshop aka doctor gelcoat) to fix mine for $250. had to get the powder flake & gelcoat from triton so it would match. $250 is nothing on a boat as beautiful as the one you've got.

Unless the scratches are deep, wax it with Pledge furniture polish. It'll cover a lot of scratches on glass boats.

Pledge furniture polish will temporarily make the gelcoat shine but will eventually turn white gelcoat yellow. It's not made for use on boats and won't do anything for a scratch.

good evening everybody. i am totally new to boating period. done most of my fishing the shore. i bought an 1983 smokercraft basscatcher aluminum 17ft boat. it's in great shape. i'm slowly trying to outfit it. it's rated for an 80 hp motor. i haven't come across any 80 hp motors. any suggestions as to what would be a decent motor? i'm not a speed demon but at the same time, i don't want to be grandma moses either. i wouldn't mind any suggestions as to fish finders. how are humminbird products? i'm trying to be sensible and work within a strict budget. trying to fight the i want it all now urge. i'm sure we've all gone through that when come to boats. i appreciate any help. thanks

OK so here is the deal. I've posted a couple of times to get some general help in getting a bass boat, and have gotten some great responses. But once again, when the time draws nearer and nearer to me buying my first boat, i have many concerns. First of which, is paying off the boat. I posted earlier about if a boat was a good starter boat. Since then, I have found the original boat that i had wanted. A Skeeter SX170, not to big and not too expensive. I found one for $8400. Its an '02 with a ninety on the back, with around 100-125 hours on it. The problem is paying it off. I am 16 and going off a $2000 a year summer job. It will take me 5 years to pay off if i get a 60 month loan. The trouble is, i will have to pay it off two years into college. My question is, is it worth it to buy a boat, then have to pay for it through college, or would it sell for enough to be worth selling in two years if i needed to? The other thing is, I am going to be doing most of my fishing in a river in brackish water. Will a bass boat hold up well enough to where it could possibly be worth enough if i needed to sell in college? Will anything get ruined? The last thing is the trailer. It comes with a painted, but i would need a galvanized, or aluminum. What is the best way to go about getting another trailer. I was thinking either trading for a used, or selling it, and buying a used. Do boat dealers do this? How else could i go about doing this. All help is appreciated

Nicholas.........seeing as you're only 16, I wouldn't recommend spending that much for a boat and have a 60 month loan right into college.Find something cheaper and not as new.....there are a lot of great deals on the Boats4Sale pages on some older boats. Buy one at the right price and you'll most likely sell it for very close to what you paid for it.

Welcome to the BBC Chris. That should be a oil injected 2-stroke. They are very popular engines, and I don't know anything bad to say about them. You can probably find out a lot more info on the boat, if you make a post in the "Nitro Forum". Just go to the main forum page, scroll down to & click on Nitro boats, and click on the "New Topic" button toward the top of the page to start a thread. Those guys are always real helpful.
