rod storage in the garage Reply  Edit

i keep my boat in storage a fe wmiles from the hosue so i take all of my rods and tackle out after each trip. anyone have any good ideas for rod storage while they are in the garage? i just have them all leaning up against each other in the corner.

i've seen the rod racks you can buy and i may just make one of those - i'm handy with wood.

i'd like to make something that could store them on the ceiling perhaps - out of the way.

anyone have pics of how they store theirs?

I keep most of my rods in the boat locked in the rod locker. I keep my extra rods in my storage building in a rod rack bought from BPS (here is a pic). It was around $40.

The rods I have that I don't take with me hang from the ceiling using cup hooks. Two hooks per rod so that they are in a horzinal position

hang some pvc pipe from the ceiling and rest the rods acrooss then. if you have open rafters you can get fancy and have them swing down to load and unload

I bought the berkley rod holders (black w/foam where the rod hooks in). I attached them to the garage wall and then made a bottom piece (to hold the rod butts) out of 2X4 and put short pieces of pvc on every so many inches to hold the butts. have 20 or so rods hanging that way on the wall of the garage

My extras hang on the wall right next to the boat.

Here is one I have to keep the rods I normally rotate in and out of the boat. I ran out of pvc and still haven't picked any up the 2 black tubes you see are actualy rod tubes from the boat.

This works for me. Easier to get to and look at than the ceiling.

Everyone ideas are awsome..

Troy:

Question on your rod storage;
1) do you have any pictures of the top half.
2) how are they secured on the top half, or they are just sitting in the tube straight up...

That is conduit that you used.
nice job to all

Thanks

The green is 1 1/2" SCH 40 PVC (electrical) with clamps, sheetrock screws to a 1X8 with a little wood stain. (all material I had laying around)
The gray PVC holds some older rods and saltwater rods, built a little different (I was out of clamps) - drilled access holes and used washers and screws striaght to the board(1X6). The rod triggers rest on the top of the 1 1/2" perfect, no need for anything up top If you notice the farthest green holder to the right, it is 2" designed for a pistol grip rod which won't fit in the 1 1/2". I only have one pistol grip rod. The picture has a Garcia reel in that holder with a regular rod. If you want any more pics let me know.

I definately have issues, these are less than half of the ones I have, and I'm building an area to build my own rods (why-I don't know).

I know it's hard to believe but almost all of these came out of my boat, after building the rack, I unloaded my boat and took a few from the other end of my garage the next thing I knew the rack was full!

I have more tackle than any Wal-Mart that I've been in.

Like I tell everyone, alcoholics and drug addicts at least have recovery groups and rehab, but us fishermen have nothing!
