I wouldn't give $10 extra for a new John Deere, their smaller lawn tractors aren't that great. Make sure what ever one you get has an oil filter, there seems to be a push to make engines wear out twice as fast by not using filters to keep your engine clean

Funny you should ask, I just got my old snapper back from my son that he had the 11 horse rebuilt last summer. I took it to a guy here in dallas that rebuilds old snappers, the total for everthing he did cost me $400.00 dollars. Not bad for a 1982 mower. he relaced all the bushings, axle boot covers, rebuilt the whole thing. And as always, snapper parts are still cheap, and real easy to install. A snapper will go places that another wont, because the rear engine. trust me i have 2 of them, and the one I have for our house is 7 years old,and all I have done is replaced the cluth-( $14.00 ) ,and it takes about 20 minutes. When the belt rears, all you do is exstend the frame. take a look at a 1982 old snapper going to be my lake house mower And it is American made!1991 Cajun Travis Edition/Johnson V90 :

John Deere garden tractor or zero turn. Get the Kawasaki motor in which ever model. Liquid cooled also. You'll pay more up front, but will last long time.

I've been thru a couple...... This one was too much work.....
This method was ok, but my buddy had a drinking problem......
This one took up too much space in the garage......
The state wanted me to register this one.....
So, this is the one for now..... It's quick.... More time for beer drinking!

How much grass are you going to cut? Do you care how long it takes you to cut the grass? I would definitely stay away from the low end John Deere mower. They were designed to compete with Craftsman. I would stay away from the Briggs motors. First choice would be the Kawasaki then Kohler. I would never buy a Briggs and Scrap Iron. Look at the spindles on the deck. Deere introduced a line that they did not put grease fittings in the spindles. Their high end mowers and great. Parts are always available for Deere. If I were buying a zero turn it would be a Dixie Chopper. The big thing is how much grass are you going to cut?

The folks at the Co-Op on Wilma Rudolph were very friendly and knowledgeable when I moved to Clarksville. I had a big 58" cut mower and ended up with a postage stamp yard. I ended up selling my big Cub and just buying a little Honda push mower. They actually do all their own service and repair on site and carry better than average stuff. I'd stop by and give them a look before buying. The Good Times http://www.greatdanepro.com/Th...x.htm

I got the John Deere from Home Depot.. Complete piece of Dog _____.! I was told that these arent really made by John Deer and you need to go to a reputable John Deer dealer for a real lawn tractor. I have had it 4 years and every year its in the shop for something out of warranty. My father bought a snapper lawn tractor 4 years ago, has yet to have a single problem with it. Same size engine as mine, but cheaper in price. Good Luck

i HAVE A HYDRO DRIVE 14 HP 36" jOHN dEER. I have only put one drive belt on it and two batteries. It is 12 years old and mowed a 1.5 acre lawn of heavy bermuda for 11 years. I even let it fall off my trailer at 45 mph and it flipped twice. Only broke the plastic cover. It has a Koeler(sp??) motor that still runs great and burns no oil. Hydro oil in it is original. I thinkl I paid $3400.00 for it new. Thats less $300.00 per year. I also ran it 5 of the years with mulcher blades. Thats tough on a small motor. The units from Lowes or HD are not the same.
