If you change your line a lot use the Avery brand little stickers and stick one on the reel out of the way so you don't rub it off with your hand. I stick mine under the reel handle side. Write the line size and type and date changed. Sometimes it is hard to tell (for me) what line diameter, Wt. test of=r if it is mono or flouro. It just keeps one less thing for me to remember when you have multiple fishing poles for different types of lure presentations. It helps from one season to the next too.
I hope this helps.

I really like the Brother P-Touch labels. I can put 2 lines of text in a very small area and it WILL NOT rub off...
For example: 14# BPS
CBF 3/20

in other words - 14 lb Bass Pro Shops Clear Blue Florescent Mono installed on March 20th..

These little stickers really hang on and the will not smear or fade.

+1 You can also get the waterproof tape for those little label makers, they can just about make it through a Tsunami

Use rubbing alcohol to rub down area. and to clarify "under the handle" If you flip the reel over its the area where the gears are. There is a flat space to stick the label. Good Tip.

I use a black grease pencil on the foot of the reelseat . When I change line I usually give the reel a quick wipe down anyway and the reel is off the rod so wipe off the old, remark the type and #

So far I havent had any problem getting them off using a finger nail.. They wont just fall off, you gotta want to be getting them off but they will pull off if tugged on..
