Many of you probably already know this, but it is worth re-posting as we head into another season. This Gut Hook Removal Technique works 99% of the time.
I've used this trick for years and it works nearly everytime. It is helpfull if someone else is on the boat to remove the hook as you need a hand to hold the fish and the other to keep the hook in position.
I started carrying a fairly heavy duty pair of wire cutters. Most of the time it's very easy to cut the eye off the hook, provided I can get both hands on the cutters and gain some leverage. Then the hook slides out very easily in the same direction it went in.
