 Preventing Backlashes Reply  Edit

This one has been around for quite a while, so many probably already know?

To prevent a backlash from occuring, make a good long cast, give your line a couple of extra pulls from your reel and put a piece of black electrical tape on the spool over the rest of your line. Then reel your line onto and over the piece of tape. Problem solved. This works well throwing into the wind or when teaching someone how to use a bait casting reel.

Another quick note on teaching someone to cast a rod and reel...have them hold a dollar bill (their dollar bill preferably) between their elbow and rib cage and have them make a cast. Tell them if they let the dollar fall to the ground, then it is yours. This teaches them to load and use the rod to throw the bait, rather than trying to throw the whole thing (rod, reel, and bait) like a baseball. Try it, it works.

Hope this helps someone get started or get better at the worlds greatest sport of fishing.

I always stress this when I'm helping kids learn to cast, makes a big difference.

I've never backlashed. Sometimes I just practice it though in case I ever do!
