snip the jig hook off? I usually like to get a couple bites and I will stick one or two just to be sure on the quality of the fish. If it is a good one, I will leave. hard to go by just bites.Derek Chance BTS and KVD Line and Lure Stahlman Powersports-Rolla, MO HI-Tech Collision-Rolla, MO

You can also just bend it over so the fish can't even hook itself. Keep that jig for just this purpose. It's amazing how long they'll hold onto it sometimes, that is except when it's tourney time and they are supposed to be caught.

I've seen Joe Thomas slip a piece of tubing over the length of the hook but I haven't tried it myself. I like to catch one or two fish to see what kind of size they are.

Any recommendations on type of tubing. I stopped at Lowes and picked up some clear gas line lawn mower tubing. It is still a little big.

Walmart - Aquarium air tubing, comes in a 3-5ft. section, should last you a while. you can also use it to hold trailer hooks on. http://www.DrCrankinstein.com

Good tips here...but I with the guy above, I would want to see the size of the fish that were holding in areas._______________________________________ 1997 Gambler Outlaw Powered by Mercury

You can use the hard tubing that comes in some trailer hook packs.

the black plastic tube that comes with a new spinnerbait, etc works awesome. it looks like a thin tube with one end closed. They can be boogers to get off the hook...but totally protects the hook and fish.

Then during the tournament when your co-angler asks to borrow a jig give him your practice jig, I'm sure he'll appreciate your generosity! 1987 Champion 184 Super V / 2003 Mercury 150 XL

Go to Radio Shack or an electronic supply house and buy some "shrink tubing" a little larger diameter than your hook(s), slip it over the hook leaving about 3/8" of tubing past the point, and then heat it with a lighter, soldering gun, or maybe a hair dryer and it will shrink to fit the hook covering the point and barb When you get done, take a knife and cut it off if you want.

If you catch one on a jig pretty quick then you switch to a spinnerbait or crankbait or worm to see what else they are hitting just in case your jig bite dies. If fish are active they mite bite again the next day after they have been caught but not very often. Oh buy the way your name wouldn't be Joe Thomas would it??

I utilize the plastic from 12 Gauge electrical wire. Strip of the plastic to desired length then slide onto the point and barb of the hook. On tourney day just cut the plastic off of the hook.....

Spinnerbait skirt collars work good. Their small black pieces of rubber that are strong enough to cover the hook. This is what I use, they work good and are cheap.http://www.barlowstackle.com/a...ID=65
