 JON BOAT TRANSFORMATION Reply  Edit

Hey all,
To start, I have looked at almost every website for these transformations...

I am looking for some input on what I should do to my 14' jon boat. It's a flat bottom and can hold my sister, girlfriend, myself, battery, and all gear comfortably. I was thinking about making a pitching deck but I have no skills like that. What could I do to make my boat more functional? I just want to improve upon my ride.

Here is a link to my jon boat modification that I did last year. It's an 18' Tracker Grizzly boat.

Travis, I did mine a few years ago, and it was the last of many I have tweaked over the years, but now that I have 50 years under my belt I decided it was time to move up a bit.

Here is a site that was a big help to me, http://myjonboat.com/ I bought his e-book and found it to be helpful.

Here are some other sites I bookmarked. The only limit is your imagination. And at no point will you put in a porta-potty for the womens!

A couple appear to be more commercial than I recall. Good luck.

Have you goggled "Hydrilla Gorilla". Neat conversion done back in '85, has some updates also. May be featured in some of these other links.
Great ideas.

Thats looks good, but how much weight did it add, and how well does it work with the weight in the front like that?

Thanks! I'm not quite sure how much weight it added with all the plywood and 2x4 bracing. I have a 20 hp Mariner motor that moves the boat pretty good. I'm not looking to break any speed records - I just need something that will get me from one spot to the next.

The boat handles great and having all that extra storage room and longer casting deck up front was well worth all the work I put into it.
