Depends on the type of gear. If you're looking for duty gear, you're probably best to talk to guys at your local agency. They usually know of the best places that are local to you. They'll likely know the gear that is approved by your (or soon to be) department. I don't wear boots anymore since working plain clothes, but I always loved my Rocky's when I worked patrol. 
It isn't a sick person who stabs someone 47 times to kill them.
