A safety tip all outdoorsmen should know... Reply  Edit

Maybe everyone does know this but I didn't...

When my wife's grandpa went on the Coumadin blood thinner his doctor who is also an outdoorsman country boy told him if he gets cut to grab some spiderweb and put it in the cut and the bleeding will stop. (Good tip for Grandpa cause they live in FL way out in the woods and they always got a good supply of spiderwebs )

I never knew this but I could've used it a couple times I'm sure. It's a decent tip for people that spend some time out in the woods and on the water... And I have Googled it and it appears to be legit Wife's Halloween decorations reminded me of it

I carry a bottle of AFRIN nose spray all the time. Some hospitals use in surgery to control bleeding. It works!!!!

I take blood thinner, and was barelyl scraped by a catfish. Thought I was going to bleed to death. I won't have time to look for spider webs, but I have a bottle afrin in my hunting bag now. Thanks for the tip.

All you gotta do to find spiderwebs is walk in front of me in the woods. They're always right in my path eye level

Vasoline. Blood won't mix with it at all so just dab some Vasoline over the cut and it'll be like instant band aid. Thats what the fight doctors use in UFC bouts.

Not saying dont work but how does nose spray stop the bleeding do you just spray it on the cut and does anyone know whats in it to make it stop I have used vasoline to help stop a cut but if the afrin works thats awesome just curious how

the active ingredient in afrin (oxymetazoline) is a vasoconstrictor (constricts the blood vessels). This makes them smaller releasing less blood and a small hole will always clot faster than a larger hole. That's why is works for sinuses. Relieves pressure by reducing the volume of blood in the sinuses thereby reducing pressure.

'The trainer/cut man uses vaseline AFTER he applies a coagulant on a big ol q-tip into the cut, then vaseline over that. The coagulant is made from an extract of snake venom I believe. Also alum will usually stop blood flow. I tale Plavix and Diovan HCT because of stents.

Super glue works in a pinch too and most carry that to fix baits anyway.

Tea bags are also great. It does not matter what kind of tea, the tanic acid in the leaves helps blood to clot. They need to be wet though. They are also like a small pressure pack. They work very well.
