Been looking at Xpress boats and would appreciate your input. I fish in the Finger Lakes, Oneida Lake and some times Ontario and Erie out of New York.
How do these boats handle choppy to ruff water? (1- 2' chop and so on.) Also how stable are they at rest. Do they rock and roll and get tippy like Tracker boats?
Welcome to the BBC Mike!! The xpress with the hyperlift hull rides and handles very well for an aluminum boat. I have a H51 which is 17' and the cheapest of the hyperlift boats. I fish on Beaver Lake here in Arkansas 99% of the time, and mainly in the river section which normally doesn't get the wind real bad.I have had a ranger 361V,basscat pantera,2 champions,184&193,and can tell you i am very happy with the way this little boat handles. I mite add that i dont swim worth a crap as well!!! It handles very much like the 361V ranger did, except it doesn't bite all at once in a hard turn like the ranger did when it droped off pad in the turn. I dont think there tippy myself, but i am pretty small.Where your at you would definately want one of the largest models, and i would think they would handle some pretty rough water very good. Some of the other guys will chime in in give their opinions
I have a Triton V176 Mag that has a hull design very similar to the Xpress. It is not tippy at all. I also fish Cayuga and Oneida so I know how choppy they can get. You want a bigger boat than my 17' 6" boat, I get beat up pretty good when it gets rough. I think a 19' or longer would be pretty good on your waters.
I have a H51 like Spanky's. I am very pleased with it. I fish Lake Guntersville, Weiss, West Point, Neeley Henry, Lanier, and do a lot of river fishing.
This boat has handled everything I've thrown at it. At times the larger lakes such as Guntersville get really rough, and I have had no problems. I am sure the larger boats would handle it even better.
Xpress is the best built aluminum on the market! !
