Looking for info on Procraft boats Reply  Edit

I'm looking at a 1994 Procraft 18' fish & ski, and wanted to know what you guys think of them.

Do they have wood in the transom?

How do they ride/handle/fish?

This one is unbelievably nice, but all I know about Procraft boats is that Bill Dance uses them.

Any and all replies will be greatly appreciated!

Yes they have wood in the transom. So do most boats from that time. If it's in good condition, it will probably be a good boat. Procraft made one of the better F/S boats. F/S boats tend to be bow heavy since the console is forward, so you don't get the lift you do on a straight bass boat.

I would really look close at the transom. I had a 91 Procraft and the transom rotted away in less than 10 years.

I have a 99' 180 combo fish/ski with a merc 150 xr6. It fishes ok and skis great (I did need to change the prop for a good hole shot, now have a 4 blade solas 17p). I am at 5600ft and with the stock 3 blade 19p I could get 52mph (gps) on the lake when it is flat, now with the 4 blade 17p I can only get 45mph at WOT. Not as much deck as a straight bass style boat I find using the pedestal seats a little cumbersome there is a lot more room if you don't use them. As far as cockpit room, 4 is just about it when skiing and 2 for fishing, more than that and it gets crowded. It does ride nice until the waves get larger than about 1-2ft. As someone mentioned the bow is a bit heavy and when coming of a wake tends to slam pretty hard if you are not careful. I have also taken several waves over the bow in rough weather (when traveling slow) due to the low heavy bow. ProCraft's are nice boats I wouldn't hesitate to buy another one. I have been really happy with mine. One thing I wish it had is a rod locker, not sure if the older models have one. Some of the Astro models the same style and size had a nice side rod locker. If you are concerned about the transom have a local marina give it the once over for you, I would recommend that anyway to make sure you are not getting a lemon. Hope this helps.

lift up and down on the motor and see if the transom moves and flexes. This is a good idea when looking at any boat, wood or composite transom. jmo
