Setup for 2001 ZX 190 new to me Reply  Edit

2001 ZX 190 with a 2001 Yamaha HPDI 175
12 Manual Jack plate with stock 25 M prop with slight scratches and small ding to one ear of prop. Only 55 hours on the motor per computer
New to me set-up
5300 RPM max with motor set about 3 inches under pad, 62 MPH GPS, full fuel, 2 men, full load, great holeshot, H2o pressure 18-20, planes and runs great, bad porpoising on left turn even with full down trim. Great tight right turns and trims to a good straight smooth ride. No pulling.
1st Set-up change
2 & 3/4 in below pad
Same load, full trim down, excellent hole shot, full trim down Max RPM 4000 at 46 MPH GPS, 22 lb H2o pressure, then start to trim up, prior to rooster tail the max RPM 5400- 5500 with 61 MPH GPS, maintains 22 lbs pressure, tight right turn, good straight run, still bounces badly with a left turn. Full trim up with a 10-15 foot rooster tail, max speed GPS 63 at 5500 RPM with boat starting to chine walk a bit. Does not feel safe as boat has too much bow lift. Trim down a bit and boat smooths out and runs great. No steering pull in either direction.
2nd Set-up change
Motor around 2 & 1/2 in below pad, Same boat load with full chop on water
Top speed GPS 60.5 MPH, only 5200 to 5300 RPM with H2o pressure at 20 to 22 lbs but starting to fluctuate some. However the left turns are much more bearable with less bouncing.
I want a spare prop so what do I need to do?
1. Do I buy a new stock prop for my boat and keep the old one as a spare?
2. Do I have my prop rebuilt or blue printed?
3. Do I buy a rebuilt or blueprinted prop and have mine rebuilt as a good spare?
4. With all that being asked, what prop do I need for my boat? 23? 24? 25?

25 M?
I have access to a 24 Raker that fits a Johnson for $125? Can it be re-hubbed?

I am interested in a great hole shot and smooth ride with no bouncing during turns. Top end speed is great but not as important as smooth ride and good turns?

Why not fix what you have?

When you say "fix" what I have, do you mean repair my prop or have it blue printed.
I'm not sure if the RPM's are high enough to get full performance from my boat.
Also, what will help with the left turn bouncing?

This is my 2nd bass boat and realize that I prolly have a lot to learn about performance, handling, and driving my boat

Thanks in advance for advice!

I think your busted prop is 90% of your problem.

From what I've found on here from all the help from Bass Junkie and others ........ Yamaha 25M is hard to beat (especially B&B'ed). Another great prop to run is a 24 TXP or 24 TR04 from what I'm told (provided you're willing to turn 5800-6000 rpm's). I've yet to find one used for sale that's both in good shape and at a decent price. I'm trying to get one myself just to try out.

Do a search on 'ZX 190' .... there are a few good posts on set up of these boats, but not a lot. I'm currently trying to tweek mine.

Thanks for the info,

I have been reading all the post about how to set up a boat in general and paid real close attention to the Skeeter set-ups.
I talked to "Mike", I think, and he suggested repair my prop which I am gonna do and to try the 25 Tempest or a 24 Fury. I want a spare prop.
I'm really considering the 24 Fury due to all the dock talk I have been hearing about this prop.
The Tempest is $405.00 and the Fury is $485.00. A lot of money for a lot of fun!

Ok, 24 Fury on and performs pretty good. Very fast on plane and will stay on plane at only 2500 RPM's The motor now turns 5900 to 6000 RPM's. Seems to not need as much trim as with the 25 m.
Ok, now to the first problem, the boat still bounces when I make Left turns. Tight as a tick to the right but left bounces bad even with full down trim.
We put a level on the boat in the shop and it was level but it appears that the jack plate is about 1/4 inch out of level with the left side being higher than the right.
So, do you guys think that could be my problem?

Not sure about your bouncing issue but curious about your top speed now since your turning close to 6000 and with what load? Also have you noticed less steering torque compared to the 25M? Are you saying the entire JP itself is not level or when you make adjustments the inner plate isn't level on each side? When I make my adjustments I always need to push down or lift up on the port side(left) of the inner plate to make both sides even before I tighten her back up.
