 Steering Reply  Edit

Shortly after blast off in a tournament this weekend, I was running across the lake and tried to turn left to stay on course and my steering basically locked up. I have not noticed any kind of hydraulic fluid leaking from the system anywhere and I have done nothing to allow the system to get air in it either.

What has happened and how do I check my fluid level? I looked under the console for a filler cap and all I found was (maybe) a vent. It's a hose that is about a foot long with a plug in the end of it.

Do you have to pull the face of the console to get to all this?

I would recommend taking it to a dealer. Steering is not something to be messing with, if it can't be fully diagnosed and fixed properly.

the hose you found is the filler hose,it should have a plastic screw on cap,it only used for bleeding the system, check and make sure theres nothing obstructing cylinder, check for loose nuts, make sure steering wheel is not hitting anything,ie. blinker trim, jackplate trim,,,all else fails have someone look at it, it may only need to be bled,,or faulty cyl., or helm.

No hydraulic jack plate! I don't know if it is low on fluid, needs to be bled or if the pump is out.

I don't know what I'm going to do. I need it fixed by Saturday.

Heck yah! I'll bring it by around noon.

Thanks Steve! I was about to try to bleed it.

That will be great. I have the stuff to bleed it and pretty much anything else we would need. See you then.

Steve got me hooked up! I don't know if it has ever turned as easy as it is now. The problem was the knuckle in the tilt wheel. There were a couple of bolts that came loose somehow. This allowed something to come apart and wear out that joint. Steve replaced it for me and I am good to go.

Thanks Steve!!
