Just swapped from a Johnson 150 Fast Strike to a Opti Max. I got 63 GPS with the Johnson @ 5500rpm with a 4 blade 24p prop. Now I've tried a 3 blade 25 tempest but could only turn 3800 rpms and got 53 mph, swapped to an aluminum 23p prop & got 46 mph @5000 rpm with no lift compared to the tempest. What should I try to get the same results as the Johnson?
I think you mean 482. The 492 is rated for 245 horse..at least the 95 is anyway.
Run a 23 Tempest...need all the bow lift you can get. If you can turn that with ease then might want to try a 24 Fury....then hold on to your hat for sure!!!
Since this is a motor swap, make sure the motor is performing properly..Sounds like the throttle may not be adjusted correctly and not opening up all the way...3800 rpm with a 25 pitch seems like something is wrong..Should turn more than that...
