I carry an AR 15 with an 11 1/2" bbl. and a Bushnell M&P sight. I had a Mini 14 a few years ago that shot great, I just ran across a guy that wanted it more than I did.

I just picked up a DPMS flat-top AR-15. I'm in the process of adding goodies right now.

I'm going to mount a Tru-Glo red dot sight on the receiver and leave the factory carbine length handguards in place. CAA makes a 5 inch rail that attaches to the vent holes on the factory handguard which I'm going to mount on the bottom.

I plan on attaching a Streamlight TLR-1 LED weapon light, with a vertical foregrip just behind the light. For weapon retention, I have a V-TAC 2 point sling that will keep the rifle close to me when needed.

I know a lot of guys who swear by mini 14's. I have an AR-15 myself and love it.

It isn't a sick person who stabs someone 47 times to kill them.
It is a sick person who counts the stab wounds on the corpse.

POF Piston AR. Flat Top. 16 inch barrel, fluted with vortec flash hider. Never had a single malfuntion with a mix assortmant of mags, ammo and cheap ass ammo. Use it as a loaner rifle when teaching patrol rifle classes. Shoots Minute of Felon all day. Pick a maker build it how ya want, keep it lubed and enjoy.

I have that on mine, works well without having to replace the whole handgaurds.

Colt M-4 Commando with Surefire quad rail, CQD vertical grip and TLR light with remote switch in the trunk but I also own a Bushmaster flat-top. Both are good guns and I haven't had any trouble out of either one.

The Mini 14 is not a bad gun but I would choose an AR-15 over it any day. It is much more versatile and there are many more options out there for parts that will allow you to customize it for your needs. There are plenty of good ones on the market these days such as Colt, Bushmaster, LMT, Smith & Wesson, DPMS, Armalite, Bravo Company, etc. Good luck with your choice.
