That does sound like a dumb question, doesn't it??Just curious if everyone else uses their volt gauge.

I display voltage on both the sonar and the gps. Don't need a guage.Collecting fish aboard the Opti-Mist

The voltage on the DF is usually not as accurate as a voltmeter. I would trust the clock on a GPS and eliminate a clock on the dash before I would trust the voltmeter on the DF. The voltmeter is one of the most important gauges on the dash JMHO, John

The voltmeter can let you know if there is a problem with your charging system. Pull the clock out and wear a watch.Gayle I am too good for nothing

I've never used my voltmeter on the dash, I popped mine out to make room for a water pressure gauge. I use the voltmeter on my sonar if anything and generally I don't even bother with that. I always consider the voltmeter like my gas gauge, if I'm on the lake and either one gets too low there's nothing I can do out there anyway so I might as well ignore them I only use my tach, trim gauge, and water pressure gage

So don't worry about blood pressure either, kinda telling you that you're about to have a stroke or heart problems. Sorry for the sarcasm, but the voltmeter tells you quite alot, when you learn to read one. When you turn the key on, voltage goes to 12.5 apx if the battery if good. When you hit the starter, if the voltage drops to 8 or 9, it's telling you either the battery is getting bad and not holding under a load and is going to leave you stranded next time out, or the starter is drawing excessive and will leave you stranded if you don't get it fixed. When you trim with the outboard running, if the "load" of the trim motor drops the voltage significantly, it's telling you again that there is battery problems or possibly trim motor problems. If it quits showing charge voltage, it's telling you of a battery problem that could take out a stator, regulator/rectifier or that one of the these components is already gone. In my opinion, must have gauges on the console are Tach, water pressure, and voltmeter. With these three you can monitor the engine and maybe catch problems before they leave you stranded or before they turn into some that could cost major $$$'s. John

I agree with John Volt meter has to stay. FYI you can also overlay the time on most electronic units that have GPS.

I agree. If voltage drops, you have a chance of losing your electronics. Then you wouldn't know what was going on. Lose the clock and put that on your electronics, or wear a watch.
