Has anyone changed out the factory depthfinder Reply  Edit

I have a humminbird p max215 on this xpress.Called humminbird to see if other models used the same cables, they said yes so i bought a 565 which gives me a 5" screen and 640/320 pixs. The only problem i see is the mount for the new unit is a larger footprint than the smaller 215.I can mount it and use one hole but i will have to drill three more.Would you just put thread tape on the old screws and put them back and let the new mount cover them or just not worry about them since they are under the new mount. What did ya'll do!

If they are under the mount, don't worry about them.

Installed it today, used one hole from the original mount and drilled three new holes making sure i did not hit any wiring underneath.Screwed it down, assembled the quick connect bracket and slid the new unit on,works great the only problem i saw,i removed the unit and the two screws that hold the quick connect bracket had loosened, will keep a eye on that or just leave the unit on the boat and not remove it.

My X17 came with a small useless Lowrance X47 installed flush in the carpeted box next to the console. This box is a cut, formed, and welded piece of aluminum attached to the cap by screws. I detached the box, removed the X47, peeled back the carpet, cut a bigger hole to fit the Lowrance 640C, re glued the carpet, and installed the new unit. I had to upgrade to the new transducer so I threaded the new wire using the old wire. The old transducer brackets on the transom fit perfectly. 2 people, 3 hours and it looks factory installed. My GPS antennae is installed where my useless cup holder used to be. directly behind the head unit in the aluminum box.
