Transfering a boat in PA Reply  Edit

I'm looking into a boat in PA, I understand the boat has to be titled and/or registered annually. What is involved in the transfer of a used boat? Is it the trailer and boat ownership?
Thanks in advance

Boats in Pa. are sometimes titled but allways registered. The title is only done once in the persons name who owns the boat. When it's sold the title is transfered to the new owner. This is done through the Pa. Fish and Boat Commision. Registration for the boat, which is done every 2 years is also done through the PFBC. The easiest way to transfer a boat registration and title is to go to a Notory that does boats and have them do the transfer. That way you are sure to get the correct forms filled out. Now the trailer. The trailer is registered through the Department of Transportation. This requires seperate forms and also is completed by a notory. Trailers are required to be registered yearly. There will also be a title for the trailer.

So when I go to pick up the boat it will come with title(ownership) of boat and title (ownership) of trailer. These will both be signed over to me then it is up to me to do the transfer. Not really sure what a notary is?
Is the D fo T open on Saturdays?
Thanks for you help!

If he owns the boat he should have the title in hand. Same with the trailer.

If I were you I would talk to who ever does the licensing and transfering in Canada. Find out on your end what needs to be done. Also have the seller do the same at the notarty or marina here in PA. You get as much info on your end, seller do the same, this way the transaction will go much easier.
