My boat's OK tags dont expire till June next year. Could I just wait till then to register it in TX?

Might post over on the Texas board or check Texas Fishing Forum. I think there are a couple of Texas Game Wardens on TFF who answer questions on registration. Now as to trailer tags, who knows! Run em as long as you can.

Here is a link to TPWD which may help on the boat and motor. BTW, you will be required to title the boat and motor separately in Texas just in case you did not know that.

You have 60-90 days to change over. The trailer is usually not titled in Texas unless you have an actual title for it. They just require us to register them and they run annually tag wise. Boats run two years per tag and you will have to either download or swing by a satellite Texas Parks and widlife office for paperwork. In addition you will have to make a tracing of your hull ID. Last but not least Texas requires boat motors to be titled as well. I would think its gonna run you less than $100 to get it done. Just Google Texas Parks and Wildlife as they have an FAQ section that covers this subject. I would probably do it quickly as a game warden will probably stop you if you do not have TX numbers on it and a cop will stop you if trailers tags do not match state boat is registered in.

Should be on the outside of the hull back at the transom. Should be a metal plate that was molded in.

Also, in getting the Motor Titled, they want a rubbing of the Serial Number for the motor....If you have a newer motor with a sticker that you can't make a rubbing from...you'll have to take a legible picture of it (the serial number) and bring with you.

I just registered a OK boat in Texas and what the guys says is true, you will need the tracing of the boat and motor serial numbers. You are also going to have to pay sells tax on the boat, motor and trailer. So just get ready when you go to do it. If you get caught living in Texas and have a OK boat, motor and trailer, you will get a ticket that will be more than is you would go down tomorrow and make it legal. You get the ticket you pay it and still have to Texas registered it.

appreciate the info. Now im concerned that I wont be able to register it in TX as I cannot for the life of me find the BIN, dataplate or anything in the boat.

good news is it was a gift from my grandfather (deceased) so I didn't pay for it. Shouldn't have to pay any sales tax on it, unless they look up some bogus amount for it.

I can honestly say I never switched mine over from WV, and got checked multiple times. We did however, still own a house here when we lived in TX.

If you have OK titles for both the boat and motor, are there not ID numbers on those title documents?

You will definitely have to have either printed pictures or traces of both the motor and boat ID's to get it registered. You will also have to pay title fee and sales tax. The trailer is simple, just register with the local County Tax Authority.
