Sprint Stringer and Transom Reply  Edit

Hello,

What are the Stringers and Transom made of on a Sprint?

I hear rumours that they bought Winner's molds and then ditched the no wood stringer system.. I don't know what to beleive...

I'm not sure, I've heard so many conflicting stories. Mabye Pat Goff over on the Champ forums knows more.

Warped mold for the 289 F/S. It's a shame that such a pretty boat is being built at such a poor quality with the passenger side console 1/2 inch higher than the driver's side, ski doors that are installed crockeed and front decks that have waves built into them and drivers side consoles that are 1 inch wider than the passenger side and a rear deck that will crack the engine cowl if the motor is tilted all the way up. You probably wonder how I know all this, well if you check your records you'll see that I bought one of these poor QUALITY boats in AUG 1999, a blue one at first that was replaced with a green one that was not quite as bad but still bad enough to spend a month at the local fiberglass repair shop to get the windshield to close halfway decent. I've taken all the SPRINT decals off the boat and when I get comments on what a pretty boat I have, I gladly inform them about my experiences with your Quality company and show them my warped front deck, crocked ski door, off center windshield and creeking front walkway and tell them to stay away from SPRINT. It's a great looking(from a distance), handling boat and I guess I'm stuck with it till I win the lottery or something

Seeing this scares me... Warped Mold?
Just blend the front deck so compensate for this problem?

Is this why Sprint is no longer????

To my understanding Travis Boating Center was asking for cheaper rigs, and Sprint was cutting corners to acommodate. When Travis refused shipment in 01, that led to Sprints demise. Some people have rigs that came from TBC and like them still. I understood someone on your other post in the general bassboat forum saying the Sprints weren't from the Winner molds, where as I'd heard they were.....Your guess is as good as mine.

Yeah...

There is a sprint Fish & Ski for sale by me... Blown Engine on it but the dealer is going to rebuild it..

He wants 4K for it now with the blown engine..
9k once he rebuilds the engine..

I wrote about this one on the general forum before..

How do you make sure a boat didn't come from Travis Boating Center.

Only thing I've heard for sure is looking under the console where the topcap joins for screws or rivets. Rivets where supposedly Travis Editions...... Usually Travis editions would have stickers on boat or trailer or both.

My 2000 296Pro had the Travis bumper type sticker on the trailer right where the Sprint sticker is on the one pictured above. It also had a Travis sticker on the transom similar to the ones you see on automobiles... however mine also has screws under the rub rail... no rivets anywhere I can see... maybe I have an earlier version when Travis was just selling them and before the "corner cutting" request.

Mike, If anyone knows for sure I sure would like to see it posted here. As I said before, a lot of people have said they had the Travis editions and were happy with their rigs, I don't think overall quality such as build suffered, just cosmetics....JMHO

I believe they started in 2000, but not in all models. I know they did in the 221 ( I received one of the first 221's in Oct. 1999) and I am pretty sure about the 296. Hope this helps.

Dang Lee, I thought they started sooner than that...... I guess I need to pull the bolts from my jack plate and check soon. Mine is a 98 207.
