info from the stroker pro's Reply  Edit

i been looking into a few boats im interested in and need some info on a stroker i found, its a late 90's model approx a '97 or so with a johnson 225 h.o. with an upgraded lower unit, ive only seen pics of it i havent went to see it yet, im wantin a 250 or larger motor but if a 225 pushed it fast enough then good but my question for you is with this motor and that year of the boat approx how fast would it go?? how would it handle in rough water??

the guys i fish tournaments with have 250's and 280's on bullets and allisons and now the guy i usually fish and run the boat with is done fishin tournaments and aint got the time anymore with a new family and work so im lookin to get my own so me and dad can keep up with these guys and can get to the fish first lol its only fun between 85-100

Depends the "upgraded lower unit" can you post any pics.

How fast do you really want to go tournament loaded with 1 or 2 people?

It's a pic a white hulled '97 Stroker with a 225 HO Johnson (coned LU) on a tandem axle trailer with an OMC trolling motor. Navy blue carpet and seats.

little he!! lol you dont have a 225 on the back of that thing, i think its like a 280 or something you just changed the cover and put a 225 sticker on it to fool people lol, i aint got the profit to be changing motors or anything so if the 225 would get it up there then great, but i aint ever had a johnson motor and dont know much about it im just wondering what that boat might put out

Honestly, if you want to run up to 90, get you a 250. I'm not familiar with the Johnson/Evenrude motors, so it's kind of hard to estimate how it will perform.

I have a 99 Stroker hull with a new Mercury 250 XS, 1.75:1 gears in a Sportmaster and it performs quite well and will "keep up" with just about anyone.

I fished a tournament this past Saturday and basically tested a prop at the same time. I ran 86.6 with a full load with plenty to spare. The gas tank was full, livewell full (only 2 fish ), 3 trolling batteries, 1 cranking battery, 36v trolling motor, all my crap, all my partner's crap. Water pressure was still above 25 lbs. so I still could have gotten plenty out of it.

I was running a stock TXP 31p four blade prop out of the box with no work done to it, and I turned somewhere in the 5750 range.

Could I have gotten more out of it? Of course. I was nowhere near the limiter and still had a BUNCH of water pressure so I could have gone up with the jack plate more. I didn't really need to. I estimate that I could have easily reached the 90+ mark loaded down the way that I was.

A slow boat is like taking a moped to work ....sure you gonna get there, but man does it suck!

Buy the boat motor combo if its what your after in the long haul!!!....Changing out the motor and controls later on after you get some seat time and more "profit" to make it run where you want.....Strokers have so many advantages and strong resale value is 1 of them....Call Junior!!!!...If not then wait!!!....Stacey Has a very nice 2002 that im sure you can get right..Throw on http://bbcboards.zeroforum.com...-1999

When you can upgrade the lower and some bolt on mods and guess where your at?????....Right beside me running 90+ going fishing!!!!

I have fished all the lakes from around there, when i lived in R-ville and alot of the time i fished out of a stroker. They will handle all the water on all the lakes around there even old fontana. And they is plenty of room to air it out up there
