I don't know if you ever got the answer you were looking for or not. I did have a 181 back in the day, mine had a 175 Merc. and Jack Plate so my set up would have been different than what your looking for but as a starting point here goes:Renagade 25" Prop to pad 3" Jack Plate 6" I would think that the difference to allow for the 150 hp would be to drop down to a 23" pitch on the prop. I would maybe go for a Tempest or Tempest plus to help you with the hole shot adjustments. Live simply. Love generously. Care deeply. Speak kindly. Leave the rest to God.

Not a problem at all. The 181's were a good boat for their time, they fished well with good room for and 18 footer. On good water it was a solid 65mph boat day in day out. They were a little rough in the ride department if the water had any kind of major chop to it. That was my first performance Bass Boat and I enjoyed the heck out of it. I can only hope that you have as much fun with yours as I had with mine. Live simply. Love generously. Care deeply. Speak kindly. Leave the rest to God.

My first as well , nothing like my old john boat lol. She's been great and a ton of fun so far. I'm trying to decide between a laser II and a Tempest. I need to bring my r"s up a bit , but am confused between pitch /diameter and style on the props. Both of them are cupped i believe and I am assuming my stock merc one is not (23P) , which should in itself should bring up RPM ( given the same pitch) correct? I'm at 5200 max and should be about 5600-5800. Would a 23P temp or laser do it ? or should I go smaller pitch (21P)? mine now is a 23P. And lastly I 'm just worried about the prop not fitting lol I have the large 4.25 merc gearcase. This is as bad as selecting a cam for a V8! lol

You should be good with either prop in the 23p . The laser2 was the prop the best prop in that time , but they still runs good with the 150 and smaller motors, the tempest plus has more bower lift ,so you should be good with either one in the 23p

Your measuement indicates a small gearcase. That leaves your options limited.

If it the large gearcase then it would be 4.75 inches.

you are correct, and thank you :) I put the 21 laser on with no vent plugs (I didnt get any) the hole shot was non existant. it revs up to 2400 rpm, cavitates, then shoots up to almost 5K ,hooks, and climbs out of the hole. But then it pulls :) WOT is 5800 now and is MUCH faster than my other prop. So... i'm pretty sure i have the right prop , I just need to tune it right with the vent plugs, bought em and should have some gps# this weekend. I dont know where to start with the plugs though. all solid I guess for a base line , then take them out one at a time until the hole shot changes in a bad way ??? my other prop didnt have holes or plugs so this is new to me lol
