1989 Hydra Sports VS 150 Reply  Edit

I'm looking at buying a 1989 VS150 with a Evinrude 150XP just wondering what your take was on this boat. Also what would be a fair price for it if everything checks out. The trolling motor is old and electronics are just basic but the gel coat looks good and so does the trailer, carpet is in good shape but the seats have a couple rips in them. Also what is the length of this boat and what kind of speed should I expect from it?

its prob around 18.5 i have a project 86 150 basically the same design with a yammy 150 and can pull high 60's easily.Look through the pic section theres a few guys on here running the same hulls,,typically 50-low 60' s mph with a 150 pushing it.Price hard to say some guys consider the h-s line golden and ask alot for them,,but a fair estimate would be 3,500-6,000

I have a 1990 VS 150 T. I push it with a Yamaha Pro V 150. I can get 66mph on gps. I am actually looking to sell mine in the near future, so I am curious to see what others think a good price would be.

Did you add a deck extension to yours. I think that will probably be the first thing that I will do since the front deck is small. If you haven't how do you like the front deck for fishing?

I haven't yet. If I don't sell it, I probably will. It isnt to bad for fishing. My problem with it is that it lacks storage.

Ok well I think I going to buy this boat I have been looking at. It's a three hour drive but the boat looks worth it as long as the compression check is good. The guy wants 3000 for the boat gel coat was buffed out and looks good what are your thoughts. Also what about the transomes on these boats is it a concern? The guy says it has not problems there but I will check it out for myself. Thanks again and I can't wait.

Is there anyway you can send or post a picture? The transoms are generally good, but I would give it a good once over to see if it has any play. I am no expert but if it has some, stay away. Other than that I would guess $3000 would be a pretty good price. I will be asking for more than that when I sell mine. If you have some pictures or a link send it to ault45@gmail.com.

Thanks, like I said after reading on here what everyone thinks about Hydra Sports boats I think it will be a good deal. Do you know anyone that has made a deck extension for that model boat? I want to make one before the lakes are soft here but I need to some ideas or at least direction in how to do it. I can't wait and hope everything does check out!

Ok so I bought the boat. Looks good and the engine checked out. Now I have some questions about the controls, on the back deck there is two switches that say rear and front what are these for? Also on the right side behind the drivers seat is a timer is the for the livewell? My last question is the RPM gauge is stuck at 2000 rpm what can I do to fix this? I'm trying to get my camera to work but the boat is nice except towards the bottom needs some buffing but I'm happy!

Big time congrats You will love it. I am not sure what switches you are talking about. The ones labeled rear and front I think would be the 2 livewells. As far as the rpm gauge, may need replaced, may be a loose connection. Either way, I would get replaced asap, as you definately need to know what kind of rpm's you are running.

Congrats again, and lets see some better pictures.

Makes since about the livewell controls for the switches. Do you ever use your front livewell? I think I'm going to plug it and use it for storage. Also what prop are you running? I looked at the one that is on the boat and it's a Michigan Wheel 14 by 24 I think. Will have to check again but just trying to see what I should start looking out for. What size is the gas tank on the boat? Can't wait for open water and to get out on this boat. I'm trying to get a camera so that I can post up some pictures! Thanks again for your help!

I had the exact boat. The problem I had was the seat was screwed directly into the floor on a sliding rail. I had water seep through the screw holes into the foam below. It ended up rotting the floor from underneath. Had to cut out the rotted floor, remove the waterlogged foam (stuff is like a sponge and it creeped towards the front of the boat), then replaced with plywood and glass. You may want to check the areas around both seats to make sure its solid. Might not be a bad ideal to reseal those screws (been there 20 years).

The VS150 is a nice boat. I believe it was 17.5' long with an 84 or 85" beam. The only Hydra-Sports hull I like better is the X-270. They are very similar, except the X-270 had an 81" beam with less inside molded depth. If the boat was stored outside, check the transom real good.
