Setup on a 190 200 efi... Reply  Edit

Hey guys, the guy before me never really shot for optimum performance but I am. I'm looking for some info as to where to start. I know it is a flatter riding hull however after seeing pics of other guys 201's running it looks like it can still get up on it pretty good. Right now it has a 6" plate and a 25 stock tempest. Where would you go from here? Bigger plate? What prop height and prop? Thanks!

If I were you I would start with a bigger plate. My dad has that set up and my boat is faster with a 175 but I have a bigger plate with a 24 1/2 pitch trophy that has been worked. I also have a 190, I know it will be your biggest expense on set up but you will be very happy. I would almost tell you to go with a 10" plate. I have an 8" but with I had a 10...

Thanks, I may just go with some 2" spacers.

I have a 12" Merc Para-lift, the extra setback really helps it to lift.
Hole shot is still great.
25 Temptest worked by Boger. Boat lifts and handles great.

So should I add 4" spacers to get a 10" setback?

Props are not the biggest concern right now as I will trade and work around to get what I need, I'm just looking to see what kind of setback I need for the most part right now. I'm looking to trade mine up to a 10" plate.

But, if you guys don't mind posting some performance no.s of props you are running. Basically I'm wanting to get 68-70 medium to moderate load which doesn't seem undoable even for a 2.5L block. Let me know more of what you guys are doing and what you are getting.

Thanks!

Well with the 12" set back and a worked 25 Teptest here are some average speeds.

Alone, and lite load i see 68-69 all day max ive seen is 70.8 on GPS.

Tourny load, 2 people and gear 65-68 GPS.

I keep all my heavy stuff in the back of the boat.

Oh yeah, this is a with a stock Merc 2.5 200hp EFI.

I get the same speeds in my boat my max on GPS is 71.1 mph empty. I do have a 200 exhaust tuner in my 175 EFI. I get about 65-67 Full load. Pretty good.

I had a DC 188 Viper. I really liked the 10" plate. With all my motor problems I really only had a few months of good running with the Viper E-Tec combo (water pressure problems with the E-Tec). But when the problem was solved, I was running a 26P Mazco HP4 at about 2 1/2" below pad. Ran about 71 - 72 GPS by myself with full load. Loved that prop but it wasn't the right one for my new boat so now it's a back up.
