Prop for underpowered 20" astro with a 150 Fast Strike Reply  Edit

I have a 24p Raker 3 blade on now and if I have two adults in the boat I have "slippage" when attempting to get on plane. I know this boat is underpowered, but I want a prop that will pull a "load" on plane without the slippage.
Any help out there?

Greetings fellow buckeye!

What is your wide open throttle rpm and what is your top speed? GPS data if you have one.

Also, do you have a jackplate?

That is a pretty large boat for a 150...I'm going to guess you'd probably benefit from a Tempest Plus with all PVS plugs out and likely a 21 or 23 pitch version.

I'm not sure what your redline is on that motor - list that too if you know it.

scarlet and gray 2008 Triton 18x2 w/ 150 Opti, no jack plate, mounted in middle set of holes, Tempest Plus 23P with 1 PVS plug that has a large hole in it + Smartcraft SC-1000 square-style monitor.

Top Speed: 58 mph GPS @ 5400 rpms

Biggest SMB - 5 lbs 8 oz (Kentucky Lake)

Here's what I found for your motor specs:

Evinrude/Johnson Intruder/FastStrike 150/175 WOT Max rpm range: 4500-5500

Gear ratio: 1.86/1

I think you'll want to be ticking the upper rev range with your motor if it's like just about any other outboard - but especially since you need some oomph to get on plane with that big boat.

Yes your spec. are right on! I do have a 6" jackplate I am 3 maybe 3 1/2 below pad. Max rpm from my motor were 5000 maybe 5200. I need a new tach now, but thats what I had when it worked. I am willing to give up the top end speed of 53 mph empty with just me in the boat to gain more "grab" at takeoff. Thanks for the help! I need to start thinking about a new prop before the snow melts.
Thanks again!

My javelin came with a 24p raker on it. It would slip bad just before it would break over to get on plane. I always had to feather the throttle a lot to get it to hook up. I don't know how true this is but I was "told" this is normal for a raker. I bought a renegade and have not had that problem since.

get a tempest plus, or have your raker drilled, it has pvs holes that you can change to customise what you need for your holeshot. pvs holes have been the difference on my boat, go to props and veiw mike lohns thread about them, you will definately see what you need to do.

Ok, I am going to think outside the box here a little. First thing is you want to prop it to run WOT with your "normal" load at the upper end of the RPM Range.

Second, have you tried a High 5 from Mercury? They are not the most fuel effecient props and they are no top speed kings by any means. But the do hey super stump pulling power out of the hole and strong mid-range.

Just a thought and might be worth trying
