He is right. So many people feel that hanging a small-block high rpm motor from a "Racing Division" is going to make their tank of a bass-boat go faster than all the other bubba's out there.99.9% of the time it just doesn't work. Propping is very hard. and even when you find one that kina works you are still no faster (and alot of time SLOWER) than a regular bass motor, as well with a very sluggish hole-shot. The 2.5L series of motors from MErcury Racing were designed for HIGH PERFORMANCE LIGHTWEIGHT Boats. Your typical bassboat does NOT fall into this category. This is the Allison, Bullet, STV, Hydrostream, Stroker, Norriscraft type boats. Ideally, a motor swap for a 3.0L 200 will yeild the best results. Until then, a LOT of trial and error and most likely many trips to the prop shop. Hopefully it doesn't have the Sportmaster lower-unit (the sleek pointy one), does it have a 15 or 20" shaft? Is the boat balanced (Chinewalk). There are a lot of variables that will optimize what you have. At least you can get what you have running to its potential. Also, IMO 5800 rpm is lugging that motor and you are on borrowed time if you keep it up.
