Set up help 200 Elite Champion Reply  Edit

Boat is an 08 200 Elite running a 225 Pro XS with a 25 Fury. I've set the Slidemaster 10 inch jack plate all over the place and still have not seen 70 by way of gps. Have since added trim extenders but have not ran the boat because of weather. What prop would be the best for this year model Champ and where on the prop to pad? I was schooled this weekend on "Hook in the hull" for this model boat, that didn't impress me too much either. I'll take your advise Pat and team and go from there.

Thanks,
George

General questions that sometimes need to be asked, just to make sure we're all singing off the same page...

Have you had the motor checked since break in to make sure it's 100%?
Have you ever ran any other prop?
Be honest...how much are you packing for a load?
How does the boat run? Bow lift, handling, does it feel "stuck" runs flat with a big roostertail? Steering stiff, or loose? What are your WFO RPMs?

Have you ever ran any other prop? 24 Fury, not much difference
Be honest...how much are you packing for a load? Way light honestly

Fells like it's flat and the roostertail is very tall. The steering is loose. Best I remember on the RPM's was 5650-5700. I got the boat to feel like it wanted to lift only 1 time messing with the plate and the best run was 68 ish. Thanks for your help Pat, whats next?

Flat, high roostertail should be "stiff" steering, which indicates motor too high.

Get your trim extenders, lower your motor until the roostertail is lower (no higher than cowling) and see if it doesn't start to lift better, that's going to give you some speed, when you get the hull out of the water.

I have the extenders installed, just need the weather to warm way up. What about the prop I have, should I stay with the 25 Fury or something else? Motor on plate at 3 1/2 prop to pad to start correct?

Should be a good wheel, but like always it's a good idea to have something else to compare. 25 Tempest (known good prop) would be a good prop to run against.

Every boat/motor/prop runs a little different, all you can do is start at a spot and adjust as needed from there.

Seems like alot of guys in the past had set-up issues with the 200 Elite.
As recommended by Pat a 25 Tempest Plus would be a good prop to test against the Fury.
3 1/2" below is a good starting point,I would start there and work my way up in 1/8"-1/4" increments keeping an eye on the rooster tail as well as water pressure.
It's a slow process with a manual jackplate, but you will be happy when you find the sweet spot.

I have heard that a 25 Trophy is the ticket for the 200 hull. I tried to get the hull shaved under warranty but no go from Genmar rep on Monday. I know they used to pay to have it done but not any longer I guess. I'm still not done complaining to them about it. We'll see when the weather breaks a bit. I'm still listening guys...
