Post Title: Green valve stem caps (TIRES)
Posted by: BaitFL at 8:39 AM 11/13/2008

Got a new work truck yesterday and noticed it had green valve stem caps on the tires. I heard they put these on tires filled with nitrogen. Is it true?

Yes

Most I've seen with them have a sticker on the windshield as well.

My Ram has green valve stem caps, that have the number "30" on the end. But the recommended psi is 35 according to the sticker on the inside of the door. So I don't know what all that means. I guess I should ask the next time I get my oil changed.

How do you fill them if they get low?

go to a place that handle Nitro.......but that is why you use Nitro cause it does not leak out as easily unless you have a good hole there.

Great for Race cars

The air you breath is 78% Nitrogen. I'd bet your wasting your money on filling your tires with nitrogen.

There is going to be at least one atmosphere of ambient air in the open body of the tire you start off with that you can't displace.........

Pure Nitrogen is not effected by temperature and is dry....so no moisture inside your tire eating away at your "DUBs" and your pressure stays consistent. Aircraft tires are filled with nitrogen.

I have the green stem caps on my Expedition but it justs indicates if the tires are low. If this happens red shows. It also has 35 imprinted on the end which is the recommended tire pressure.

UH, OH. I bought a sierra last year and it had green stem caps. I have been filling the tires with reguar air from the gas station for free. Did I cause any damage? Should I go back to filling them up with nitrogen? Should I get different caps? Please help here fellas!

You've destroyed your sierra. It's now pretty much worthless. I'll give you 4 grand for it. delivered.

Actually, I did the same to my sierras nitro tires last week, it got a little chilly out and those &%#@* tire pressure sensors kept flashing on the dash, I don't know why they air them to 32 pounds. In my 2000 chevy i ran 40 and 45 lbs. So I popped into the gas station and pumped them up to 38 all around....no more cold weather tire pressure alarms.

Where would you get Nitrogen?

Post Title: Re: Green valve stem caps (brainerdbass)

this is done in response to all the problems with tire pressure monitors on many autos, the nitro doesn't fluxcuate as much due to temp changes

EXACTLY!!!! i work with tires and cars all day everyday. nitrogen in your tires is a scam and a half. we see tires with the green caps all the time and they are always low. ALWAYS!!!!! we talk to our customers and end up letting all the crap nitrogen out and fillin them up with the good ol' fashioned stuff. i think someone stated above that it all came about with the TPMS sensors in vehicles. yes that is true. those thigs are a pain in the arse as well. why are people so lazy that they cant even do simple things like checking the tire pressure?? not that hard
