Does this run on its own or do you need the Navionics software program to run it.

It runs all on its own. Just pop in the DVD into your PC and you have an instant lake view.

Now I really feel like I've been screwed royally for buying Navionics NavPlanner for my PC. Looks like $130 down the toilet when I could have spent $20 and got a more reliable product

That sucks. I was thinking you had to have the software with it but $20 sounds like a great deal. I may have to get it. Dang some more money spent with 3RM.

The additional High definition lakes cost $20 a piece. You can download them off of fugawi's website.

I just looked too and there is no directions or links to get your free map. It just gives a list of which lakes are offered. Maybe directions are packaged with the disc

To use this do you have to be using a nvaionics chip, or can you just use it without a chip and transfer the waypoint data from the PC to a chip for your gps on the boat ?

No you do not need a Navionics chip for these to work. You can save your waypoints and trails from your computer to a chip and save them onto your unit. But if you do not have a Navionics chip your unit is just not going to see the contour lines. I hope this has answered you question. If you have any other questions regarding this please let me know.

That is if you order from Canada. Try a local dealer.

These are two different products for different level users. The Explorer has no HD lakes included (one for free is available for download w/purchase). Although there is some functional overlap, the NavPlanner software allows you to manage ALL of the data on the SAME chart you use on the water, and is easier to transfer data with. The Explorer software is better at "exploring" new lakes, but does not include the detail or pure planning functionality of the NavPlanner.

I'm sure there will be confusion about these two products, but in a nutshell, the NavPlanner is a complete management program best for more advanced users. The Explorer is for anyone who spends time on a lake.

JUSTIN

I just received my Fugawi DVD and already downloaded my free HD lake. To access the HD lakes you have to have the program open and under the "Do More" menu at the top there is the option to buy (and receive the one free map) HD maps. In the same menu there is an option to download the Google Earth plug in for free.

This is some neat software and I will be using it a lot. I have already marked 12 waypoints to upload to my LCX-25c on a lake I am fishing a tournament and have never been there. The Google Earth plug in gives you a view from the sky at various angles. The 3-D map is useful and you can even cruise the lake in a virtual mode at various speeds. I gotta find my old joystick to drive the virtual boat better.

Couple screen shots:
