I've been looking at carpet for my boat. Lowes has carpet they call original boat carpet. Has anyone used this? It looks like pretty good carpet.

Yes I have. I used it when I restored my 1985 Bass Tracker Limited Edition
1710 Kevlar bass boat. Its good thick pile carpet with stout backing. Glues
down real well and was easy to cut with good quality shears. (But don't tell
my wife I used her shears.)

I'm glad someone else had something good to say about this carpet. I bought my carpet there as I really could not afford $15-$20/yard for carpet (though, I'd _strongly_ recommend getting the best carpet you can afford... you don't want to recarpet the boat more often then you need to). Lowes sells theirs for about $7/yard. I've had it on my boats for 2-3 years and it looks like new. I keep the boat covered when not in use but it stays outside.

As I see it, the biggest difference in carpeting is spacing between weaves. More expensive carpet has a thicker mat. If you want to see the difference, bend it so the rubber backing touches.

I have a 1985 1710 Kevlar boat. Do you, by chance, have an electrical circuitry diagram or know where I can get one? I am the 5th owner of this boat, and the other four have added items wthout updating the wiring; ergo looking under the console looks like spaghetti. Also I need some instructions concerning operating the two live wells.
My email is tarenz@austin.rr.com .
thanks.

I used it as well. While the nap is not what you see on the upper end stuff it is standing up really well. I recarpeted a lid last week with some of the extra I had laying around and after one summer the stuff I put on last year has not faded what-so-ever.

Is this stuff off the shelf or does it have to be special ordered?

Both... they sometimes carry grey and black, but you can order other colors as well...takes about two weeks to get in.

We do carpet for a living and the labor involved with doing a bass boat carpet job is way more expensive than the carpet. We're biased but frankly, I'd use the best, heaviest, UV resistant carpet. There is only 5 makers of marine grade boat carpet.
The glue and the preparation of the deck is also important.

Can anyone provide an item # or SKU? I went to Lowes and they were clueless and never heard of it.

I used Lowe's carpet cuz it was cheap and it looked good. It still does 2 yrs later. My only problem...I have black spots coming thru looks like mildew or something. I first accused my kids or spraypainting something on my boat carpet. It started showing thru 2 weeks after I recarpeted.

I will try Resolve and other stuff. If not, I have enough left over to redo those areas. For the $$, hard to beat.

for the $$ hard to beat??? 2 weeks after you put it in. just like most things when it comes to boating, you get what you put into it. good parts aren't cheap and will last. there is absolutely no comparison in basscat carpet and lowe's carpet. yes it is expensive, but it will last, it's very thick and will not have spots come through a few days later

While it is not quite as plush as BassCat it is really close and 1/2 the price. I went with Lowes because the shipping to Canada was $150

There's not a think wrong with Lowe's carpet. It's inexpensive and durable. I recarpeted a boat about seven years ago with Lowe's carpet, when my son in law sold it last year it was still in great shape.

Not being bias at all, just what I see. I have a 1995/96 basscat and the carpet is still decent looking. I probably won;t have to change it till next year. I just got the boat-2nd owner and I WILL NOT GO THRU THE TROUBLE FOR LOWE'S CARPET. It may look good at first but it won't last long. Call Basscat ask for Scott....

I just checked BassCat and it's $7 per foot for a 6' wide piece. That's not bad at all. I'm not knocking Lowes carpet but the work you have to go through just to prep for carpet install. I would hate to have to rip it out a year or two later if it didn't hold up.

On another note I did happen to get a few samples from some of the leading carpet places and Lowes happened to be BETTER than the other guy.

SO, if that hasn't confused the heck out of I would say if you can afford it, get the BassCat carpet and be done with it. If you can only afford the Lowes then do it but MAKE SURE you keep it clean and vacuumed often. I had it on a deck insert and it matted quick??

Basscat vs Lowes argument not withstanding, I'd still like to know the item # or SKU for Lowes carpet so I can at least see it up close and personal. The closest Lowes had no clue and had no 6' rolls on the racks (which I gather is the size of the perfect boat carpet). I have other Lowe's in the area to check, but before I go traipsing around, it'd be great to have some more info.

Just call call basscat 870-481-5135..and be done with it. Then you will not have to burn any gas. And you will be talking to somebody that has a good clue...

I just bought some of lowes "marine" carpet to do my trailer boards with and it appears to be very thick and heavy duty so far so good although i did not use it on my bass boat itself "see post titled almost there" I originally ordered 24 foot from cabelas for the boat and throughout the learning process i only had small amounts left so the trailer got the lowes carpet Ill let you guys know how it held up . For your information they had it in stock it was in a 12 foot roll and I used Black !

I used the Lowes carpet last spring when I totally re-did the floors. Worked out great! Easy to cut, glue and place. Even managed a good job on the lids. My mechanic last saw the boat when the floors were all cut out, and said he honestly thought I was in over my head. He just asked me who I got to finish the job, because it looked professional. Still looks new, and has had plenty of use.

Go for it!
