It is very popular here in Alabama. Especially on the Coosa chain and lakes that are clear and rocky. It is a technique that has been around for a while, but seems to be getting a lot of attention this past year. I typically use a 3/16-5/16 oz jighead (there are several good ones on the market - Spotsticker, Davis shaky heads, All terrain tackle are a few that I use.) Around docks and riprap, I use a 4-5" straight tell finesse worm most of the time(zoom, netbait, reaction innovations, yamamoto cuttail, or other of your choice. I am partial to the cuttails myself. I keep my colors simple - white, watermelon/red, & green pumpkin with blue or red flake. You can skip these rigs under docks or pitch to pilings pretty easy. I have had good luck with reapers and four inch paddle tails poured by Snakebite Handpours. Another go to bait is the smallie beaver in bad shad. I guess there is really no limit to how to fish it. Those are my 4 go to baits for the "shaky head." If they are on a shad bite, the smallie beaver is AWESOME! I typically use power pro 6/20 or 8lb fluorocarbon and I use a 7' 3 power spinning rod. I think a lot of people use 6'-6'6" spinning rods, but I am more accurate with 7' spinning rod. I have also used the kistler crankbait composite rod (baitcaster) and it handles the jigheads pretty well. Good luck, this is a great way to fill a limit! Steve

Steve about said it all!! The shaky-head will catch more fish but you will catch a lot of small fish on them.(have caught some good ones). Ill pull it out when the bite is slow.

Most of the time I use the 3X finesse 7 ". I also like the original straight tail Jelly Worms. Recently got some netbait finesse and ordered some netbait floaters. Eager to try those guys out.

Zoom Finesse worms, Yamamoto Cuttails (in the 4 or 5" sizes) an the original Slider Worm all work great.I like the cuttails from Yamamoto the best. That small tab tail has a very subtle and natural swimming action, muck like a minnow tail.

Steve G was right on the money with his discription. I use the net- bait finesse worms and a Zoom trick when I want a little larger worm. I generally don't like spinning tackle but it's a must with this technique. I seem to get a little line twist if I use some of the curl tail worms. That's why I tend to stick to a straight worm.

I agree about the line twist, that is why i only use a straight worm as well. The cuttail is a straight worm, with a small, tabtail.

I also use the cut tail, but I started using the Gambler icicle worms last year and had good success on them. They are very thin at the end/tip and have alot of action on the fall. A bit difficult to rig straight, but worth the extra effort. Mark

Davis Bait co. now has a shakey worm to go with the shakey heads. This worm is a little shorted than a trick worm, and it stands up off the bottom. I have been useing this worm for some time now. You can get them from coosa tackle .com ( board sponser). There are 8 or 10 colors out now. Check them out I think you will like the results. http://www.photobucket.com/shockscustombait

Ther is a guy named Greg C that is a member of the BBC he hangs out mostly on the NC/SC bass club page. I have used his jig heads with great sucess. He makes them at home great design but whats really important is that they plain out catch fish. You can email him or IM him with your info and he will get in touch.

Put a Yum Dinger on there, 3" or 4". It'll knock your socks off on smallies.

Hey guys, does that shaky head have a wide enough bite to catch a big fish. I used to fish a lot of missouri-rigged baits (what the shaky head application used to be called) but lost a lot of fish because the hook style wasn't capable to sticking a big fish.

I used some of these on Saturday while fishing with Fred and yes they have a good sized and very strong hook. I believe it is a 4/0.

In my opinion, these are the best shakey heads made. http://www.sneedproducts.com they are local fisherman and everything is hand poured. they make jigs and plastics. i have caught several 4-5lbs fish on these. My buddy cought one upwards of 7lbs this winter on there rigs. there jigs have a very unique barb that holds the worm on, and the worm is actually poured with a dimple to slide on the bard. they are now selling them at gander mt. in bowling green ky.
